Sentence
Ten years of probation and lifetime registration, without an initial prison sentence.6
Reviewed sting-related legal outcome. Later three-year incarceration combines an alleged supervision violation with a jail altercation; not substituted for the original sting sentence because case ownership is mixed. Speculation about a planned homicide is excluded. Original report lists two exhibition counts; only one exhibition conviction is described later. The remaining initial count is not marked dismissed without a final order. Generic computer-exploitation wording is not treated as a separate CSAM-possession conviction. No current custody conclusion.

Biography
Spikes was married for nine years and ten months. He got divorced sometime between 1998 and 1999. He lived in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
Arrest and Police interview
Spikes promised to arrive at the sting house at a particular time but fell incommunicado. Because of this, the Dateline crew and law enforcement thought he had backed out, so operations were shut down for the night. However, Todd would call the decoy at one o'clock in the morning, saying he was coming. Because of this, he was pulled over and arrested before he could arrive at the sting house.
Shockingly, upon searching his van, they found an extensive array of guns, plus one revolver in his pocket that was loaded and cocked, along with an assault rifle on the passenger seat, loaded and primed. They found dozens of boxes of hollowpoint ammunition. Even more shocking, and this was not covered in the Dateline story, he had all the materials for a body dump: a chainsaw, tarp, ropes, and a boat anchor.
Spikes was brought to the booking station at the Flagler Beach Police Department remained silent during questioning and chose not to speak without a lawyer present. The detective told him that he will have his car impounded to see if any of the weapons he had would lead to to further charges, but he would be allowed to take things out of his car, like his father's Rolex watch in the future. The detective also made it clear to him his car would be forfeited to the state of Florida.
During his short time in the local jail, Spikes befriended fellow suspect Daniel Kelly . The two bailed out, and Daniel gave Todd a ride in his car in exchange for the smokes.
