Case narrative
Sting and Arrest
Warner arrived at the sting house and pulled up in his car in front of the sting house. He was then confronted by Casey Mauro the decoy standing on the other side of the fence that separated the beach and the road. Warner initially felt nervous and hesitant, but Casey begged him to come to the beach. Warner, however, refused and walked away towards his car. That is when Chris Hansen popped out and confronted Warner.
Chris, now standing opposite Warner by the fence, asked Warner what he was doing and said to Hansen he was not doing a thing, maintaining he wouldn't do anything with the girl, but he later admitted how he talked to his attorney about whether he could or couldn't do anything. Warner admits to Hansen he has a good point, but he also blames the decoy a little bit too. Hansen then asked why a sixty-year-old man should be doing such a thing and asked Warner if he could see how he crossed the line between reality and fantasy. Warner agreed. Hansen then mentioned the stuff Warner brought, to which Warner tried to blame the decoy again, saying he was only there to meet a friend and making the argument she wanted them. Chris, however, mentioned to Warner how it looked and Warner agreed it did not look very good. Chris then asked Terry what should happen to him and Warner claimed he learned his lesson. Hansen then revealed who he was.
Warner seemed to think that was it for him and he had only been caught on camera, having no idea his arrest is coming. Police jumped out from the side of the house as Warner approached his car, took him down and arrested him.
Aftermath
Warner was charged with attempted sexual assault and child luring. He did not have to serve any prison time but was sentenced to lifetime parole and lifetime registration as a sex offender. A few years after the sting, Warner was going to be Santa Claus at a community center, which technically wouldn't have been against the law since his interaction with any minors involved would've been supervised by other adults. A flyer was found by a member of the TCaP community who notified the center, leading to Warner being fired immediately.
Death
Warner passed away peacefully in New Jersey on March 12th, 2025 of unknown causes. He was 78 years old.
2023 update
Chris called a number associated with Terry Warner in 2023 but received no answer. The conversation went as so;
Warner Jr.: You want Terry Junior or Senior?
Warner Jr: And what is this in regards to?
Hanen: It is in regards to a follow up story that I am doing.
Warner Jr: Uh, he doesn't want to talk to you, Chris.
Warner Jr: Please don't call here again.
Hansen: We follow up with people over the years, and wanted to follow up with him and I have some questions but if he doesn't want to talk I understand that. I am not going to bother him.
Warner Jr: No, actually, no, he does not want to talk to you.
Chris took this as a big message not to talk to Terry.
Trivia
Warner was the oldest predator caught in the New Jersey sting. State law only allows Level 2 and 3 (medium and high risk) sex offenders' information to be public knowledge. Warner's obituary was taken down due to rampant vandalism by the TCaP community.
