Biography
Ambeyi was born in Kenya around 1987, give or take, and illegally immigrated to the United States at some point. At the time, he had lived in Birmingham, Alabama. Due to his immigration status, there is a lack of publicly available information or documents that would otherwise be obtainable.
Sting
Ambeyi arrived to the sting house in the early morning hours to meet the decoy at the door. The stylish decorations seen in many Blount County investigations prompted Ambeyi to ask the decoy if it was "a house or a club." He paid the money that he promised to the decoy and asked to use her bathroom. Although the decoy said that he could, once again Chris Hansen walked out to prevent another predator from using it until he conducted his interview.
Hesitant, Ambeyi sat down at the kitchen island after being told to do so multiple times by Chris. When asked, Ambeyi said that his only intention was to "meet with the aunty" (Blount County stings frequently interchange the relationship between the two decoys; some being mother-daughter, some step-mother and step-daughter, and other times aunt-niece). Chris asked if Ambeyi had brought money to pay the girl for sex, and Ambeyi responded that he did not. Deputies quickly apprehended him and placed him back at the table while he displayed a smug smile that he kept for most of the interview.
Chris asked if Ambeyi was a United States citizen and Ambeyi answered that he was not, despite the fact that he previously did not want to comment seconds before. Chris asked where he was from, to which Ambeyi said Kenya, and asked how long he had been in the country illegally, to which he again did not want to comment on.
Ambeyi said that he was only "playing along." Despite his smirk, Ambeyi stated that he was not laughing about the matter. He also claimed that he had never met with someone online for sex before, but that doing so was natural and comforting to him because of bad relationships he has had. Ambeyi then again claimed that he only intended on having sex with the aunt and blamed the decoy for advertising her niece/daughter for sex. He also said that the decoy's looks were "okay," and that he only came into the house because he needed to use the bathroom.
When Chris revealed his name, Ambeyi said that he recognized him from television but that he looks different due to age, he being more familiar with the younger Chris Hansen. Ambeyi admitted that he had condoms in his car, but offered an excuse that he always has them there. He also admitted to having a machete in he car, but only because he "likes knives." The excuses quickly fell short, however, when he admitted to having a loaded handgun on his person. When Chris questioned why he would bring a loaded handgun to a house to meet a fifteen-year-old girl, Ambeyi said that he does "have a conscience" and would not shoot someone, as that would be crossing the line.
Ambeyi was asked what he would want other people to know and he said that he would want people "not to fall into traps." Chris questioned, "How about not get online and talk to a fifteen-year-old girl and then drive a half hour to have sex with her, how about that?" Ambeyi responded, "That's the trap." When Chris stated that it is not a trap to attempt to have sex with a minor, Ambeyi asserted that "it is."
At the conclusion of the interview, Ambeyi again asked if he could use the bathroom. Deputies searched him and found condoms, a large bottle of KY lubricant, and a loaded handgun. Ambeyi claimed that he always carries around a 4.5 fluid ounce bottle of lubricant with him and that it did not indicate an intention of having sex. Chris pressed him on why he would claim to always carry around lubricant in his pockets but Ambeyi just asked to pee again. Ambeyi was led out by deputies and arrested. It is unknown if he was able to pee at the house.
Aftermath
Electronic Solicatation Travelling to Meet a Child to Perform a Sexual Act Human Trafficking.
In an unaired police interview, Ambeyi expressed concern that these charges would likely lead to his deportation. His case is scheduled to go to a grand jury for the indictment process in April, 2025.
In April 2025, an officer pulled Ambeyi over and observed an open container of alcohol and a box of ammunition in the vehicle. The officer asked Ambeyi if he had a firearm in the vehicle, which he denied. The officer asked Ambeyi to step out of the vehicle and recovered a revolver, after which he was placed under arrest.
Because of his status as an illegal alien, Ambeyi is prohibited from possessing firearms. He was charged federally with being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm. In November 2025, he pleaded guilty, and, in April 2026, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He is scheduled to complete his sentence in this case in July 2026, after which he must still face the charges for his arrest in the Blount County sting.
