Case narrative

Biography

Not much is known about Singh. In the Takedown episode, Chris Hansen said that he was 44 years-old. However, in a news article published shortly after, it was claimed that he was 49. Michigan public criminal records show that he was born in 1976, which would have made him 46 at the time of the sting.

Sting

Satinder Singh arrived at the sting house to meet what he believed to be a fifteen-year-old girl after a sexually charged conversation. Chris Hansen then walked into the room, ruining any chance Singh had of going to the bathroom. He asked Singh to sit and Singh said "yes sir" while standing there motionless. He sat after Chris asked again. When asked why he was there, Singh claimed that he was just passing by and needed directions.

Singh discovering that cameras are filming him.

Singh wore a disposable face mask to the house and initially refused to take it off, but relented after Chris kept telling him to. Chris asked again why Singh was there, to which Singh said that he was frustrated because he was getting laid off from his job. Singh denied having any intentions of having sex with a minor. He dropped the "needing directions" story to say that he just wanted to talk to the decoy. He clarified to say that he wanted to counsel the minor girl and inform her that having sex with strange adult men like him would not be a good idea.

Chris asked what Singh thought should happen to him and Singh replied that he had apologized so he should be able to just leave. When cameras emerged, Singh pleaded that he had not done anything wrong and that he was sorry (for not doing anything wrong). Singh blamed his friend for introducing him to Skip The Games the day before and that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time but did not intend on doing something bad.

Aftermath

Child Sexually Abusive Activity Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes Using a Computer to Commit a Crime

Singh pled no contest to the third charge in return for having the first two dropped. He was sentenced to 22 days in jail with credit for 22 days as time served. Therefore, he faced no additional jail time. He is not listed on the Michigan sex offender registry.
