Case narrative
Aftermath
Ryan would later be the only predator out of the seventeen men caught in the sting to be charged and was investigated by the New York City Police Department. He was later suspended without pay. Ryan appeared at the Federal District Court in Brooklyn in front of Judge Lois Bloom wearing an F.D.N.Y. Additionally, Judge Bloom prohibited him from accessing the Internet and referred to the complaints' allegations as "a disgrace to the department." Ryan's lawyer, Brian J. Griffin, said he would be acquitted and "his good name will be returned."
They attempted to aid them in dropping his charges. When realizing after more than a year that going to trial would be a terrible idea with actual pedophiles supporting him, Ryan chose to enter a guilty plea in May, 2005, to a felony charge of attempting to send obscene matter to a person under sixteen. He was given lifetime registration as a sex offender, five years of probation, psychological treatment, and take random polygraph tests. He would later get married in 2018.
2023 update
At the end of Hansen's Predators I've Caught podcast episode on Charles Gregory Green, a fan asked if he would make an episode on Hogan and he agreed. He would reveal in the episode that Hogan now works as an expiditer. As far as Chris could tell, Hogan has not reoffended. Chris mentioned how he was particularly disturbed by Ryan Hogan in the past since 9/11 was only three years before the sting took place and expressed how horrible it was to see out of all people they caught, one of them was a man who could have been a hero, although is is unknown if Hogan worked in response to the terrorist attack. Chris then went on and said that he was a guy who could have had a great life, great salary, great reputation, and could've been looked at as a hero with a nice pension. Instead, Hogan will be looked at as just another predator for the rest of his life. Chris attempted to reach out to Ryan but heard no response from him.
Trivia
Ryan was the first predator in a position of trust and authority.
