Case narrative
Biography
He was twenty-three and an assembly line worker for a factory at the time of the sting.
Sting
Following their conversation, Raul took a four-hour bus across Florida to meet the decoy. When he arrived, he knocked on the incorrect door, but no one answered. Raul entered the sting house when he heard the decoy's voice. Raul showed up with beer and condoms. He tried to follow the decoy but was stopped by Chris Hansen . When Chris asked what should happen to him, Raul stated he should get the death penalty. After Chris revealed that he was with Dateline NBC and that camera operators were surrounding Raul, he left and was arrested by the police.
2024 update
In a Predators I've Caught Podcast, Chris Hansen revealed more details of the argument for Raul being not guilty during the sting and his appeal. Raul's criminal defense attorney argued that reality television heavily influenced the show. According to Hansen, his lawyer even wanted Hansen to testify in court, which he did. Therefore, Raul was almost set up and entrapped. The juror, however, did not buy into it.
