Aftermath
Mahjoob ended up pleading guilty to one count of Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child Under 14 Years of Age. Even though he avoided jail time, in March 2007, he received a sentence of three years probation, 60 days of CalTrans cleanup, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He finished his sentence in 2010 and is still listed as a sex offender in California.
The two returned to their car and left Anaheim around midnight. An hour later, at around 1 a.m. on April 5, 2013, while at a traffic signal that was red near her residence, the woman came to a stop. She then noticed a car which Mahjoob was driving coming up towards her on the opposite side of the road. Mahjoob's vehicle struck her car head-on while its headlights were on, sending it spinning out of the turn lane and off to the side of the road, inflating the driver's side airbag. Irvine Medical Center by paramedics. Mahjoob suffered injuries to his head and left hip. Majoob was a little disoriented and smelled of alcohol when paramedics arrived on the scene. He was taken to the Western Medical Center where tests on his blood and urine showed he had a BAC of 0.22, over three times the legal limit in California.
He was imprisoned for 159 days before being let out. Mahjoob was found guilty of two felonies related to DUI and given a 15-year prison term, of which four years were served for the injury he caused to each victim and seven years for his prior conviction in the Long Beach sting. In April 2016, he filed an appeal with the California Court of Appeals regarding his conviction, claiming the medical staff had breached his civil rights by not adequately sanitizing their catheters and needles, the BAC tests were erroneous, and his previous conviction should not have been taken into account. His verdict and sentence were fully upheld. He was incarcerated at the Avenal State Prison and was eligible for parole in 2025. However, in 2024, his parole was granted. If he commits one more serious felony, he faces a mandatory sentence of twenty-five years to life in prison because of the three-strike law in California.
Trivia
Mahjoob is the second predator to be tazed by the police, the first being Marvin Harrison Smith II from the Fortson, Georgia episode. Dani Miura would later state in an interview that Mahjoob urinated on himself after being tazed, and that the sound of him doing so was picked up by Dateline's audio equipment.
