Smith was greeted by the two decoys at the house and gave money to one before Chris Hansen came out. Smith told Chris that his name was "Chase." When Chris asked Smith who he intended to meet, Smith responded "you." Smith told Chris, "I never agreed to have sex with a fifteen year old." Smith further stated that he did not intend to have sex with anyone at all. Chris questioned why Smith came to the house if not to have sex with someone, to which Smith just shook his head and did not respond. Smith became tired of Chris' questions and attempted to leave, but was quickly apprehended by deputies. Chris attempted to continue the interview, but Smith told him, "I don't answer questions." Smith directed Chris to his attorney, but refused to say who his attorney was. Despite paying the decoys, Smith insisted that there was "no deal."

She was charged with 25 felonies stemming from the fraud. Smith had bailed out on the sex-related sting charges, but was again arrested for his involvement in the fraud, picking up an additional six felonies and five misdemeanors.
