Biography
John Michael Dupee was forty-three at the time of the sting. He was a former UPS package handler who was unemployed in 2015. He had been arrested before for drug possession charges.
Police interview
Dupee would begin to cry when he signed away his right to remain silent. He acknowledged at the police station that he visited the sting home to meet with "Bailey." Dupee clarified that he mostly discussed a variety of subjects with the decoy. He repeated his claim that he was only planning to watch the Steelers and the Ravens football game with the decoy. He said the girl looked like she was seventeen in her profile picture. Dupee claimed he initially didn't think the girl was 13 and that he hugged everyone he encountered for the first time. Dupee insisted that they would only watch the football game together and not engage in any sexual activity. They urged Dupee tell the truth, saying they didn't believe that he was not intending to have intercourse with the decoy.
Dupee asserted that he had been "single and lonely" and that he "hit it off" with the young girl. Dupee claimed that he would have told the girl that they couldn't have sex. He claimed that his sibling would have picked him up again. The male investigator became impatient and declared that there was only one reason a grown guy would be at a girl's house: sex. Additionally, the female investigator noted that Dupee went for a hug right after entering the sting home. Noting that it was extremely unsettling for a grown man to act that way toward a young child. The male detective described Dupee's lies as "bullshit" and pressed him to tell the truth. Dupee admitted to being on bail for a prior offense as he continued to sob.
