Reviewed sting-related legal outcome. Article labels federal postrelease term parole; neutral supervision avoids asserting federal parole mechanism. Arrest occurred in Highland Heights in separate KBI operation, not direct Hansen house confrontation. Later successful registration-removal petition does not erase original conviction. Archived narrative gives August 10 conviction; third-party docket transcription instead identifies an August 13 plea. Month only retained pending original docket review.

Biography
Rauch was a brilliant pianist who performed throughout the Cincinnati area for many years. Jim was also the founder and director of the handbell choir at Milford United Methodist Church where he was also the lead organist.
Aftermath
On August 10, 2007, Rauch was convicted on the charge of Travel In Interstate Commerce with Intent To Engage in Sexual Conduct with a Minor. He was sentenced to forty-six months in prison, lifetime parole supervision, and registration as a sex offender.
2024 update
According to a Chris Hansen's Predators I've Caught podcast made shortly after his passing, Rauch petitoned to be off the Ohio Sex Offender registry and was successful in doing so, making his last few years sex offender registry free. This confirmed Rauch's statement in the 2019 interview to be true.
2019 update
Rauch revealed that the reason he spoke to detectives for as long as he did was because of his alcohol intake and that, despite working for the department of criminal justice, his role was simply putting the content that had already been checked and cleared on the website, and that he never actually looked at it; as such, he wasn't sure what to do in a situation where he would be arrested.
Although Rauch tried to end the call a couple of times, the fan managed to keep him talking, with Rauch stating he didn't really like talking about the situation, as well as acknowledging that he had never actually watched the interrogation and didn't really care if people used his decoy call to make edits on YouTube. After eventually deciding to let Rauch go, the fan reiterated that he was simply fascinated and had been wanting to speak with Rauch for a long time, with Rauch jokingly stating he should probably be appreciative of the fact, but apologising the fan had to become aware of him in that way. Rauch then stated that the video did not represent the kind of person he was. The fan then admitted that the thing he found most fascinating about the interrogation was Rauch's inability to take accountability for what he did at the time. Rauch admitted that he wasn't a nice person back then before hanging up and going to bed. The fan, bemused the whole conversation actually took place, is not known to have called Rauch again.
Trivia
After his release, Rauch relocated to Illinois, where he was listed on their Sex Offender Registry as a Tier II offender. Rumours surfaced in early 2022 that Jim had passed away, although he was still alive for an additional two years, having relocated to Ohio and successfully petitioned to no longer be required to register as a sex offender. Even though he was briefly featured in the Bowling Green edition of TCaP, Jim was one of several men that was actually caught in a sting solely operated by the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation which was running a four-city sting operation; his arrest occurred in Highland Heights, Kentucky. An anonymous user on the TCaP forums claimed to be Rauch's cellmate at one point, basically describing him as being the exact same in prison as he was in the interview (an incessant talker, an arrogant buffoon, and someone convinced he had done nothing wrong). Rauch is the first predator caught in a Kentucky investigation to have passed away.
