Case narrative

Sting

When James arrived at the beach, Casey Mauro , who was posing as the thirteen-year-old girl, was waiting to greet him. James acknowledged to Casey that he had brought condoms and that he wished to kiss and hold her. Chris cut him off and began to interrogate him. James claimed the girl to be eighteen-years-old. Chris told him that she

informed him she was thirteen when they first started communicating. James denied having intercourse with the fifteen-year-old girl when Chris inquired about her, although he did admit to talking to several minors and meeting a sixteen-year-old girl. After being told he was on Dateline, James tried to leave but was immediately arrested.

2025 update

Chris Hansen found a number associated with James, and he picked up the phone, and Chris introduced himself. The conversation was brief after James said, in an odd way to imply he was in a bad mood from Chris calling, "I am fine." Chris then explained why he contacted him, but James quickly said, "No, thank you!" and hung up the phone. Chris then mentioned how, while James is publicly registered in Pennsylvania, he is classified as a Level 1 (low-risk) sex offender in the state of New Jersey. State law only allows Level 2 and 3 (medium and high-risk) sex offenders' information to be public knowledge. Chris also confirmed James got into no trouble with the law after the encounter he had with him.
