Case narrative

Sting

After driving over one hundred miles to the sting house, the decoy, played by Del Harvey , tells James she has to do her laundry and then offers him iced tea. Chris Hansen then comes out behind a pair of curtains and asks how he is doing. James initially takes a seat when asked by Chris. Chris asks him if he found the place okay and what he is doing there. James says he doesn't know what he is talking about and quickly walks off. As soon as he exits the house, he is arrested by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

When being questioned by police, James says he had been married for twenty years and has three children who were ages eleven, thirteen and fifteen. He tells the officers he was going to spend the night at the house and watch movies with the decoy.

Aftermath

James would eventually plead guilty to Attempted Child Molestation and Attempted Sodomy. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a minimum of five years to serve, ten years of probation, and (unsurprisingly) register as a sex offender for life. He was released around Christmas time in 2009 and remained on probation until 2019.

2024 update

When The Skip Tracer ran an investigation into Klein's case, it was discovered that the incident took place at a birthday party on Saturday, July 8th, 2023. According to a witness report, Klein was attending a birthday party at the same time as a "Mrs. Klein retrieved a roll of duct tape from a black bag and used it to restrain J.A. to the chair by her hands and neck in a seatbelt fashion. Klein allegedly told the child, "You're going to be the first one," but did not tie up the other victim. Mrs. Anderson quickly retrieved her child from the chair and filed a report. The incident took place in Cobb County. As of April 2024, Klein remains in custody likely without bond.

2023 update

On August 1st, 2023, at approximately 10:38am, Klein was booked into jail following charges of Simple Battery and False Imprisonment of a Child Under 14 Years of Age. In response to the argument, Klein allegedly duct taped the child to a chair so they couldn't leave his home.

Trivia

James is best known for dicussing about getting back from lunch and having "pepper steak fixed a little bit different way" during his conversation with the decoy on the phone.
