Case narrative
Biography
At the time of the sting, Jacob Wutka lived in Shelby Township, Michigan.
Sting
Jacob Wutka communicated with a decoy that he believed to be a fifteen-year-old girl on Skip The Games, a website that facilitates prostitution. Wutka asked for both oral and vaginal sex with the decoy. After learning of the decoy's age, Wutka came up with the brilliant plan to ask her for a picture of "one boob out." If she did not send it to him, he would know that he was communicating with the police. If she did send it to him, he would then have child pornography on his computer. He asked if the decoy accepted "donations" and said that he would need to stop at an ATM first.
Wutka arrived at the sting house but would not enter past the door. He stood there for a minute before quickly making his escape, only to be apprehended by police outside. When Chris Hansen asked him why he was there, Wutka responded that his mother had died from COVID that very same day, which did not answer the question. He was still wearing a visitor sticker from the hospital.
When Chris asked if Wutka was there to meet a fifteen-year-old girl for sex, he responded, "who's to say?" He stated that he did not know if the decoy was underage or not but still showed up anyway. Wutka then stated that he intended to come over and cry, not have sex with a minor. He then seemingly blamed his hours-deceased mother by stating that it was "hard to say" whether he would have come over if she had not died. He said that he had met the decoy on the way to go see his mother, implying that he began the conversation before his mothers death and continued it after.
Aftermath
Child Sexually Abusive Activity Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes Using a Computer to Communicate With Another to Commit a Crime
In a plea deal, Wutka pled guilty to the second and third charge in exchange for the first being dropped. He was sentenced on August 19, 2022 to 2 days in jail with 2 days credit for time served. Additionally, he was given 60 months of probation. He is expected to be discharged from his probation on August 19, 2027. Wutka is now a registered sex offender in Michigan.
