Reviewed sting-related legal outcome. Read June20,2007 Press Democrat article at https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/sex-offender-gets-3-months-in-jail/ : despite3-month headline, article consistently states4months jail or electronic home confinement,3years probation,lifetime registration. Wiki says he chose jail and adds50hours service. Later dumping charge excluded. Original reporting offers jail or electronic home confinement. Do not infer actual jail placement from the sentencing option.

Case narrative

Biography

Guzman was twenty-years-old and unemployed. He drove a Mustang because his mom was a successful artist and he earned a lot of money from her.

Sting and Arrest

When Guzman arrived at the sting house, the Perverted Justice team realized that they didn't recognize who he was. While this happened, another predator arrived and parked his truck in the driveway, watching Guzman enter the house.

While this was happening, Guzman and the decoy were engaged in a casual conversation. Guzman attempted to lie, claiming he was 17. Once Chris revealed it was a Dateline Investigation, Guzman left and was arrested in the driveway.

Moments before Guzman was arrested, the man in the truck drove off and was arrested down the street. The pair were photographed and then brought to a makeshift booking station. Guzman initially lied about his intentions but eventually spilled the beans and said he was there "[I guess] to have sex." He then ended his interview with detectives. He was charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a child under fourteen.

Aftermath

Guzman admitted to the felony and pleaded guilty. During sentencing, Judge Rene Chouteau ordered the sentencing of attempted lewd acts with a minor to either serve four months in jail or on electronic home confinement in San Francisco. He was told he must serve three years of probation, during which Chouteau ordered him not to initiate contact with minors, provide the probation department with all his computer passwords and screen names, and not provide any false information about himself on the Internet. His personal computers would be subject to random searches by probation officers. Guzman was also told he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Guzman chose four months in jail, three years of formal probation, fifty hours of community service, and registration as a sex offender.

2023 update

Hansen made a Predators I've Caught podcast focused on Guzman in 2023. Hansen discovered that Guzman still lived in the San Francisco Bay area. He now has a YouTube channel for video games. He also was arrested and got an illegal dumping charge in San Matteo, California. Hansen managed to get a number associated with Guzman, and Hansen called the number. The conversation went as so;

Hansen : It's Chris Hansen, how are you?

Henry swiftly hung up the phone. Hansen tried calling back but had no luck hearing from him.

Trivia

Guzman does not appear publicly on the Megan's Law California Sex Offender Registry. It is more than likely he either successfully petitioned to be removed or had his information made viewable only on police databanks.
