Arrest
Diederich and Ruiz made the decision to proceed on foot after parking their vehicle in front of the sting house. Diederich was seen approaching Del Harvey , the decoy pretending to be the teenage boy, while carrying a tray of drinks. Diederich came to a complete halt and whirled around. He indicated to Ruiz to follow suit. The Riverside cops then arrested the two.
Aftermath
Diederich was charged with a felony count of attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age and a felony count of attempted oral copulation with a minor under 14 years of age and more than a 10 year age difference between victim and offender. The court set his bail at $50,000. In 2008, Diederich was convicted on the former felony charge while the other was dropped. He was sentenced to six months in jail, three years of probation, and was required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
