Case narrative

Sting

Dasilva entered the hotel lobby and met the undercover cop posing as the girl's father. The "father" tried to talk with Dasilva more, but Dasilva simply hushed him. Dasilva went to the hotel room, where he was promptly tackled, handcuffed, and arrested by cops stationed in the room, squealing and refusing to cooperate with them throughout the duration of the arrest. Dasilva, from that moment on, started sweating profusely and continued screaming hysterically. A female detective sat him down in one of the chairs in the room and told Dasilva that she just wanted to talk to him, but he kept sweating and screaming at the top of his lungs. He yelled at the detective, saying things like, "I did not do anything!" and "Please, let me go!" over and over and over again, without drawing breath. This lasted for at least five minutes. Finally, the detective told him that he was being arrested for soliciting a minor.

Dasilva kept screaming. The detective told him to stop, but he did not. Dasilva pleaded with the detective and insisted he was only there to give the "father" and his "daughter" some cash, that the cops were entrapping him, and that the discussion he had had over text was not sexual in nature. The detective attempted to reassure him, and told him they would figure all of it out. Dasilva continued to plead to be let go, to which the detective reminded him that he was under arrest. The detectives told Dasilva that if he did not stop screaming, he would receive an additional charge of disturbance of the peace, since they were in a hotel with people trying to relax in the neighboring rooms. Heedless, Dasilva continued screaming, and the detectives eventually stood him up and took him outside to their car. While waiting by the car door, cuffed, hunched over, and held by two officers, Dasilva spotted Chris Hansen and his camera crew and started screaming that they could not film him. In the interrogation room of a mobile police command center, he remained cuffed as he spoke to the police, although his interrogation footage has not been released, leaving the discussion's nature unknown.

After Dasilva's interview by the police, Chris Hansen sat across from him and told him he wanted to speak to him. Dasilva, freaking out, stood up and walked towards the door. The detective told him he could not leave and sat him back down on the bench. Dasilva then screamed at Hansen, arguing the latter had no right to film him. Hansen replied that he had every right to film Dasilva, and that he had been doing these investigations for a while. Hansen then told Dasilva he would be on television, giving him a chance to explain himself. Dasilva then asked, "What kind of show is this?" and Hansen said, "This is a story about predators like you, Edmundo." Hansen then concluded the interview with Dasilva, as he was refusing to co-operate.

Aftermath

Dasilva was charged with human trafficking, use of a computer to solicit a guardian, traveling to meet a minor, and using a two-way communications device to commit a felony.

As of March 3, 2025, Edmundo's marriage was officially nullified.

DaSilva went through three different lawyers as his case worked its way through the court system. On August 6th, Chris Hansen testified virtually in Edmundo’s trial; he was in Maryland on a sting operation at the time. Hansen was called by the defense attorney as a witness, as Edmundo was adamant that he testify. The attorney was professional and cordial, but asked Chris if he and Grady Judd profited from catching more predators. Chris stated that the answer was “no” and that he’d like to do a sting where nobody shows up. During the trial, the prosecution also called the regional director of the TSA as a witness, as Edmundo argued that he had been trained to detect human trafficking and was there to help the girl. The director refuted Edmundo’s claims and stated that his “training” consisted of watching a 30-minute video.

On August 7th, 2026, DaSilva was convicted of all charges he faced and taken into custody. Because he was convicted of human trafficking involving the sexual exploitation of a child, DaSilva faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole. On September 30th 2026, Da Silva was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, in the Florida State Prison.

On October 14th, 2026 Dasilva has been entered into the Florida State prison to serve his life sentence.

Trivia

It is revealed in this episode that when Dasilva challenged the presence of the camera crew, the officer detaining him indicated that Polk County has not implemented the use of body cameras on its officers. Edmundo’s phone contained 74 images of child erotica and searches for “AAA” breasts.
