Case narrative
Biography
Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon said that Scott did not have a criminal record. However, a 2019 news article reported that Scott was arrested in Shelby County, Alabama for soliciting prostitution, along with twelve other men.
Sting
Scott arrived to the sting house, but quickly turned around and drove off. A few minutes later, he returned to the house and parked in the drive way, greeting the decoy at the door. Once Chris Hansen came around the corner, Scott attempted to flee out the front door but was quickly apprehended by deputies. While being handcuffed, Scott stated that he was only "coming to visit." He also complained about being handcuffed.
Scott stated that he initially began talking to the decoy because he couldn't "perform like [he] used to." He thought that "maybe this might be something that would help [him]." However, after contemplating the matter, Scott decided that he no longer wanted to do it, which he stated is why he chose to come over and "visit" instead. Scott claimed that he only agreed to visit because the decoy kept insisting and would not stop. He denied ever meeting anyone online for sex in the past, despite his previous charge for soliciting prostitution.
Scott told Chris that he feared his wife would divorce him once she found out about the situation. He also told Chris that he has seen Chris' previous shows before. Scott stated that he could not "perform" even if he wanted to. Chris asked him why he would show up anyway, then compared their ages, Chris being 64 and Scott being 70 at the time. Scott told Chris that he looked good for his age and Chris stated, "You do too. Except you got handcuffs on." Scott laughed and said, "Yeah, I know. Geez." After further questioning, Scott promised "on a stack of bibles" that he only intended to give the decoy money and leave. Scott apologized for his actions and lamented that his his life was over. Chris also offered Scott a cookie due to Scott's shaking, but he refused. Scott then told Chris that he was going to shoot himself, but Chris told him not to even joke about the topic.
Aftermath
Although the charges listed in the episode are slightly different, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, Scott was charged with :
Human Trafficking Facilitate Travel Of A Child For Unlawful Sex Act Electronic Solicitation
Nearly two years after his arrest, he pleaded guilty to one of the felony charges he was facing. He was sentenced to three years in prison with credit for time served. After his release, he will be placed on probation for another three years and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
