Case narrative
Biography
Eighteen years prior to the sting, twenty-two-year-old Pann was arrested for second-degree sexual assault against a young teen. Later, he was found guilty to sexual assault in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and sentenced to two years of probation.
Sting
Del Harvey, who posed as the thirteen-year-old girl, welcomed Pann when he got to the sting house. Without even knocking, Penn entered the house and was offered root beer, Halloween candy and coca-cola. After a brief exchange of words, Pann made a root beer for the decoy before acknowledging there was no ice left in the bucket. As he went to obtain ice for the drink from the freezer, Del left the room and Chris Hansen appeared. When Pann walked back towards the main room, he was greeted by Hansen, awkwardly turning the tap on and off before sitting down when requested to do so.
Pann questioned whether or not he was under arrest, with Hansen cryptically responding, "Not right now." Pann asked if he could leave but Hansen said he had a few more questions for Pann first. When confronted over the fact the girl was thirteen and that he referred to himself as a "predator" in one of the conversations, Pann chose to end the interview and depart from the sting house. Hansen tried to explain what Pann had walked into, causing him to turn around and take off in a childish hump. He was swiftly arrested and taken to jail by Murphy police.
