Reviewed sting-related legal outcome. Saved arrest affidavit is not a sentencing record; earlier plea offers are not used as the sentence. Initial affidavit uses attempted conduct, while reported eventual plea uses attempted battery; amendment mechanics are not established. These rows preserve initial and final descriptions rather than asserting five simultaneous final counts. Generic computer-pornography form heading corresponds to847.0135 solicitation, not an inferred CSAM offense.
Case narrative
Aftermath
Kelly made bail and held out for a trial well into 2010, but when continuances didn't get the case dropped and the trial date loomed, he ended up regretting the fact that he didn't take one of the earlier plea deals that had been offered to him. At one point, he even tried to force Hansen to testify, indirectly admitting to his crime by claiming a journalist who witnesses a crime should have to testify. He ultimately plead no contest to charges of Attempted Lewd and Lascivious Battery of a Child and Use of the Internet to Solicit/Attempt to Solicit a Child for Sex. He was sentenced to two years in prison and two years of sex offender probation.
Trivia
He was dismissed from his position following the sting.
