Clifford Mitts

Clifford Mitts had been communicating with a decoy posing as a fifteen-year-old girl. After entering the sting house and communicating briefly with the decoy, Mitts said, "Ah, I'm good," then turned to walk out of the door. Chris Hansen stopped him and told him to have a seat at the table, but Mitts refused saying, "No, I ain't gonna do anything." Mitts then stated that he will not do anything with the decoy and attempted to step around Chris multiple times while saying, "I'm in trouble." Deputies had to intervene to control Mitts who appeared to be getting more upset. Mitts became distressed over the thought that he would be "getting divorced" due to the incident.

Mitts claimed that he did not have any intent to do anything with the decoy other than bring her some Faygo soda, due to that fact that he could not possibly have sex anyway. He also claimed that he knew it was a setup. He went on to tell Chris that he has not had sex with his wife in "years" because he is unable to.

Mitts said that he had a "brain fart" when considering coming to meet the decoy. Although he knew that he could not physically have sex, he still decided to come over and talk to the decoy to see what would happen. Mitts told Chris that he was working on his deck when he saw the ad. When Chris asked why he was looking for anything at all, Mitts said that "it doesn't cost me nothin' to look." When Chris told him that bringing the Faygo showed intent, Mitts responded that he would keep it and drink if that were the case. Chris asked him why he would show up at all, to which Mitts responded, "I'm not smart enough to do this. You know, if I was a smart guy, I'd probably find some hooker or something."

Child Sexually Abusive Activity Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes Using a Computer to Commit a Crime

His bond was set at $30,000. As part of a plea agreement, the Accosting and Using a Computer charges were dismissed. The Child Sexually Abusive Activity charge was lowered to a charge of Seduction, to which he pled guilty. He was given no additional jail time and three years of probation, which he is scheduled to complete on January 17, 2027.
