Case narrative

Biography

In 2009, Ek pled no contest to a charge of illegal bear hunting in Lincoln County, Wisconsin. According to Wisconsin public records, Ek filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

Aftermath

Christopher Ek was transported to the Marquette County Jail, indeed staying the night, and was charged with:

Child Sexually Abusive Activity Using a Computer to Commit Child Sexually Abusive Activity Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes Using a Computer to Commit Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

Ek pleaded not guilty to the charges, posted a $50,000 bond, and was released. During a Chris Hansen interview with Marquette County Sheriff Gregory Zyburt, Zyburt expressed concern about the firearm and feared that Christopher Ek may have had a more sinister plan for the minor girl. As of September 2025, the case is still ongoing. A trial was scheduled for September, but the case has been stayed pending the outcome of People v. Jade in the Michigan Supreme Court. More details of that case can be found online.
