Case narrative

Sting

After making some initial pleasantries with the decoy, Chris Hansen emerged to confront Veldt. He stated that he knew the situation was a "scam" and that he wanted nothing to do with the girl. When questioned about the site he met the decoy on, Veldt requested to leave but was told to stay by Chris. Veldt then blamed the decoy for lying about it not being a sting and blamed her for her sexually suggestive messages. Veldt stated that had a bad feeling about the situation before arriving. He claimed that once he saw her, he realized that she was too young, despite the fact that he already knew and acknowledged her age. Veldt told Chris that he hadn't had sex in fifteen years, coincidentally the year the decoy would have been born.

Veldt asked Chris, "How much is it gonna cost me to just walk away from this?" He clarified, "Can I just give you some money and leave?" Chris denied the bribe, and instead asked why Veldt would be trying to meet an underage girl. Veldt stated, "she talked me into it." Chris asked if it was the minor girl's fault then, to which Veldt responded, "Well it ain't all her fault, but it's-a lot of it's her fault." Veldt claimed that he tried to leave but the decoy kept texting him so it was her fault that he showed up.
