Case narrative

Sting

Marsh arrived to the sting house and kicked off his Crocs at the door "out of respect," then greeted the decoy inside. Suspicious at first and looking around the house nervously, Marsh eventually asked the decoy if she would accept the $100 promised via Cash App. When Chris Hansen came out, Marsh asked if he could use the restroom, which was denied. When asked what his plan for the night was, Marsh responded that he was there to see a twenty-one-year-old woman. Although Marsh admitted to knowing that the decoy told him that her age was fifteen, Marsh claimed that he did not believe it. Marsh also noted that he had used the same website to solicit sex in the past.

Marsh blamed the decoy and accused her of suggesting sexual ideas. He claimed that he reluctantly agreed to those ideas. Chris handed over the paper that Marsh requested the decoy hold up in the picture, but Marsh dropped it. Chris offered to pick the paper up off of the floor, but Caleb used his bare toes to grab it. Chris refused to touch the paper after that. Marsh brought condoms, wet wipes, extra socks, and lubrication in his pockets to the sting house. He asserted that the $100 he was going to pay the decoy with was not for sex, but rather for a period of time in her company.

Marsh maintained that he had no intention of having sex with a minor girl. He repeated that his plan was to ask for identification to prove that she was of lawful age before having sex. Lt. Chad Long requested to search Marsh's phone, but Marsh initially refused. Eventually he agreed, but hesitantly. Lt. Long asked if Marsh typically asked for identification from every female he met up with for sex. Marsh claimed that he did, to which Lt. Long suggested that Marsh must not meet very many women willing to have sex with him. Marsh agreed.
